Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) is a choral group composed of queer persons from the Los Angeles area. Established in , the GMCLA has grown in size, toured across the country and worldwide, and released 16 CDs. There are many ways to contribute to our organization including as a singer, dancer, or behind-the-scenes volunteer. Our Mission is to create a positive musical experience through exciting performances which engage our audiences, build community support and provide a dynamic force for social change. We unequivocally denounce all forms of violence, whether domestic or abroad.
The Gay Men’s Chorus started in WeHo’s Plummer Park in July and performed at the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights later that year. Gary Hayashi thought that if he could just get close enough to God, he would be cured. That made his parents nervous, so when he was 6 and they discovered his singing voice, they were relieved. They guided him toward the church choir, and there he stayed, cultivating a life led in service of God.
